The mediators at IMS bring a wide range of skills and experiences to our company and you should review the backgrounds of several possible meditors before choosing one or more to suggest to your opposing party. While a mediator’s specialized knowledge about a particular topic can be useful, remember that in a courtroom setting you (and your attorney) would have the task of convincing a non-expert judge or a jury of average citizens about the merits of your case.
Cost can also be a factor. Mediators with specialized backgrounds will charge a higher hourly rate. Not every dispute requires the services of a retired federal court judge, or a lawyer with 30 years’ experience in class action litigation. At IMS, the hourly rates or flat fees of our mediators is set forth on our website.
